The Sharks are looking to recruit the talented former under 19 and 21 flyhalf Ishma-eel Dollie for the upcoming season. The Emerging Bok has impressed enough to be invited to Springbok coach Peter de Villiers' training camp and almost secured a contract with the Brumbies, but due to the Canberra based team having signed 3 flyhalves, Dollie had to sheepishly return to South Africa where the Stormers had tossed him aside.
My only problem with the Sharks luring young talent to Durban is why they are not securing young talent from KZN's finest rugby institutions and holding onto them? Is it because the University structure is lacking compared to Cape Town, Pretoria, Bloemfontein and Johannesburg? Surely considering how good the standard of school boy rugby is in KZN, there should be plenty rugby players knocking on the Sharks' door. Not necessarily at Super 14 level, but at under 19, 21 and Vodacom Cup level.
I think the Sharks Rugby Academy is doing a good job, but something needs to be done about the players leaving school and getting lost in the woodwork, lets harness the talent and start breeding some world class flyhalves.
