Life is good for the world greatest tennis player of all time. The multimillionaire has just added 850 000 pounds to his bank balance, not to mention the endorsements and bonuses. The 27 year old has returned to the summit of men’s tennis after a brief absence. The Swiss player has also set a new record for the most Grand Slam titles claiming his 15th at Wimbledon on Sunday in his 7th consecutive final at SW19. This newly wed’s wife is pregnant and expecting in a few weeks. It can’t get any better for Roger Federer who is regarded by many as the best ever to play the game.
Who can doubt that now that Federer has triumphed for the 6th time at Wimbledon and won on every surface that tennis is played on. The Swiss master proved yesterday that even when some opponents play the best tennis of their lives that they cannot beat the master of the tennis.
Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Andy Roddick and Novak Djokovic are world class players, but until they win 15 Grand Slam titles, they cannot be regarded as the best. They may beat Federer, but still have a long way to go to surpass the magical 15 major mark. Nadal will have to overcome his injury worries, while Murray will have to overcome the pressure of his fellow Brits at SW19, while Andy Roddick found out in the final that his best was not good enough and Novak Djokovic will have to become more consistent at Grand Slams if he is to go on and win as many as the “Fedexpress.”
I think Pete Sampras summed it up the best, “In my book, he's the greatest of all time. He has his critics and people point to Rafael Nadal beating him, but for me he's the greatest. He is a legend and an icon.”
